Handcrafted Heirloom Furniture — Built in Wisconsin. Furniture should be comfortable & functional. It should also be beautiful.
My goal is a combination that's become hard to find: the clean lines of contemporary design, the warmth and depth of solid wood, and construction designed to outlast its first owner. Every piece is built by hand, one at a time, in my Wisconsin shop. I work almost exclusively in solid hardwoods, joined the traditional way — mortise and tenon, hand-cut dovetails. No particle board. No hidden screws. No shortcuts.
In a world of cheaply made, throwaway furniture, I build pieces meant to be passed down.
Look around. If you see something you like but need it in a different size, choice of wood, or a different configuration, almost everything here can be custom made. If you have a piece in mind that isn't on the site, I'd love to work with you to bring it to life.
What is heirloom furniture?
Solid wood moves with the
seasons. Mass-produced furniture, built from composites and fastened with
screws, doesn't accommodate that movement and eventually fails. Solid wood, properly joined, does — and can be refinished, repaired, and handed down rather than discarded.
At Alan's Fine Woodworking, every piece is designed and built by hand in my Madison, Wisconsin workshop. Each one is a custom commission — made to your specifications, in the woods you choose, to the dimensions your space requires.
