Handcrafted Heirloom Furniture — Built in Wisconsin
Furniture should be comfortable and functional. My goal is to make it something that also brings beauty and joy to the room it lives in.
What I'm after is a combination that's become hard to find: the clean lines of contemporary design, the warmth and depth of solid wood and traditional construction. Handcrafted and built to outlast its first owner and become the piece your heirs fight over.
In a world full of cheaply made, throwaway furniture, I build pieces meant to be passed down.
Look around. If you see something you like but need it in a different size, a different wood, or a different configuration, almost everything here can be custom made. And if you have a piece in mind that isn't on the site, I'd love to work with you to create it.
What is heirloom furniture?
Heirloom furniture is crafted to last. It is built with solid wood wherever possible and joined with time-tested techniques like mortise and tenons or dovetailed joints.
These choices aren’t just about tradition and looks — they’re about durability, repairability, and beauty that deepens over time. Using solid wood ensures that each piece has the strength to withstand decades of daily use. It makes the piece rapairable if necessary, not disposable. At Alan's Fine Woodworking, every piece is designed and built by hand, one at a time, in my Wisconsin shop. I work almost exclusively in solid hardwoods, joined the traditional way with mortise and tenon, bridle joints, and hand-cut dovetails. No particleboard. No hidden screws. No shortcuts.
Heirloom furniture is an investment in quality and craftsmanship that pays off over a lifetime.
