A handcrafted blanket chest has one of the oldest forms in furniture. Traverse begins there — and becomes something more.

The body is solid cherry, warm and grounded. Across the top, a bold diagonal stripe of spalted maple cuts from edge to edge, then continues down the front face in the opposing direction — a single, unbroken line of movement that gives this chest its name and its character.

Spalted maple is among woodworking's most unpredictable materials. Its dramatic figuring — dark zone lines, wild grain patterns, subtle shifts in tone — is produced by fungal activity in fallen timber. It cannot be manufactured or replicated. Every Traverse is, by nature, a one-of-a-kind piece.

The ends are solid maple, their outer faces gently convex. It is a detail you may feel before you see it — one that transforms a flat panel into something sculptural.
